WAC Inventory Costing

Monthly cost updates with full preview

Weighted average cost recalculated monthly from real PO receipts. Preview every proposed change, confirm with one click, and reverse a posted run if something needs correction.

How it works

Inventory valuation drives half of your month-end close. PulsePlant's WAC module runs a controlled, auditable cost update once a month based on every closed receipt for the period — freight allocated, eligibility checked, idempotency guaranteed.

The run is always preview-first. You see every SKU whose cost is about to change, the new weighted average, the quantity on hand, and the exact GL impact. Nothing posts until you click Confirm & Sync. If the resulting GL adjustment is large, the preview flags it with a warning banner before you commit.

Posted runs are reversible while the fiscal period is still open. Every run writes a permanent record with the user, timestamp, items updated, GL debits, and GL credits. Finance teams have a complete audit trail and a safe undo button.

What you get

Preview before posting

Every cost change, every GL entry, every skipped item visible before anything touches inventory.

Freight-allocated costing

Freight rolls into the weighted average properly so landed cost is what actually hits the ledger.

Large-impact warnings

Automatic red-flag banner when proposed GL adjustment exceeds configurable threshold.

Reversible runs

A posted run can be undone with a reason while the period is still open. Full reversal of cost and GL.

Run history archive

Every run recorded forever with who triggered it, what it changed, and the full GL summary.

Idempotent by design

Run twice on clean data, nothing changes. No accidental double-posting.

Common ways it's used

Monthly close without manual cost spreadsheet reconciliation
Safely recovering from a bad cost load with a one-click reversal
Satisfying auditors with a full who-did-what-when record per cost change
Keeping inventory valuation in sync with actual receipt costs including freight
